QuickBooks on Windows 8 – not just yet, but close

I recently had to replace a failing computer here at the office and bought a new Windows 8 machine. Now I knew ahead of time Intuit had not yet certified Quickbooks on Windows 8, but I’m a bit geeky and decided to give it a try. Overall it has worked great with just a few bugs. Here are the known bugs Intuit has posted with Windows 8 and Quickbooks 2013:

Currently, emailing forms, previous bank reconciliation reports, and saving as PDF within the program will not function correctly due to a new version of the Microsoft XPS Document Writer (what QuickBooks uses for PDF creation) that is included with Windows 8/Server 2012.

If emailing forms is important I would not go this direction yet. However someone has posted a fix for the PDF issues within Quickbooks and Windows 8.

The other issue we have seen is reports not exporting to excel correctly. There appears to be something wrong with the macro.

If you are planning to upgrade to Windows 8 it would be recommended to wait until Intuit has certified Quickbooks to work properly. In our case we have enough computers still running Windows XP or Windows 7 that we can work around any issues.  So if you have no choice but to buy a new computer and have Quickbooks still running on older operating systems  you can get a new one Windows 8, just be cautious.
